Review of AirBlue’s BlueMiles Frequent Flyer Reward Program

AirBlue Limited is Pakistan’s second largest private airline operating Airbus A319, A320 and A340 plying domestic routes in Pakistan as well as other international destinations in Europe and Asia. BlueMiles is the airline’s frequent flyer reward program that awards members miles for choosing their flights and allows them to accumulate so that they can redeem for flight awards when they reach a minimum required for an award they want.

Earning miles

Like many other reward programs, BlueMiles aims at rewarding its most loyal customers with special promotions and discounts on flight tickets but BlueMiles is not as popular a program as most others. As a member of BlueMiles, the miles you earn are automatically added to your account when a flight is complete. You will earn 1 BlueMile for every mile flown as a standard member
Another great way to earn more BlueMiles points is by signing up for the AirBlue and Faysal Bank MasterCard which will earn holders miles even on their daily purchases. This is the fastest way to earn BlueMiles.

Redeeming miles

BlueMiles miles can only be redeemed for free flights on AirBlue. The airline has a standard miles redemption rate for domestic and international flights. A domestic flight within Pakistan costs 3,000 miles for a one-way flight and 6,000 for a return in economy class and 6,000 miles for one-way and 12,000 miles for a return in the Business class. International flights will cost 7,500 miles one-way and 15,000 miles return in the economy class and 12,000 miles one-way or 24,000 miles round trip for business class flights.

Elite membership

BlueMiles card holders get benefits depending on their membership level. Basic level membership, the first level, is achieved when the member is awarded 1,000 miles on sign-up. Regular level membership is awarded automatically when a member attains the required 2,000 miles and the premium service level is awarded when the member accumulates 20,000 miles.
Platinum members enjoy many benefits including priority tags on checked luggage, preferred booking and seating, priority check-in and preference in exit rows when available. Ordinary BlueMiles members still get to enjoy priority tags on checked luggage, staff assistance and preferred seating and boarding if available.

Pros

• Great offers including free miles on sign-up
• Low miles required for elite membership
• Simple miles earning and redemption structure
• Membership card sent automatically when a member accrues 2,000 miles.

Cons

• Very little information is available on BlueMiles.
• No partner companies hence minimal ways for members to earn miles.
• Limited routes also means limited opportunities for members to earn miles.
